A while back, I was having a conversation with some colleagues, and we were discussing the definition of alpha type personalities, mainly males.
I listened to what they had to say, and it was not pretty. They saw chauvinism, bullying, machismo, control, and loudness as fitting characteristics to describe an alpha personality in the present day.
I do not and did not agree with any of it at all.
To achieve the alpha level, I believe one must aspire to become a philosopher king—pardon the sexist labeling. It was a concept invented by Plato as he explored the idea of the perfect republic. Wisdom and knowledge are required to rule.
When I think of an alpha personality, I envision someone with a level of awareness and consciousness to lead without meanness or hidden intentions. It is someone who can shine light onto their own darkness; it is the person who walks upright out of the human jungle of decayed morals; it is the person who heals their own cuts and wounds before spilling blood on others. It is also the person who can see beyond themselves and lend a helping hand. It is the person who can assist others in solving their puzzles.
An alpha is someone with a vision for the collective good, be it a herd, a family, or a company.
When I think of an alpha, I think of individuals who can contain those around them with a smile, a kind word, or the simple act of being there.
In the presence of an alpha, you should feel safe to be the best version of you.
