Truthful I am
Truthful you are not
Sober I am
Sober you are not
And it was the drunken moments
They revealed the truth
Drunk calls
Drunk texts
Promises made and forgotten
Lost in a deep drunken ocean.
With a bit of her truth serum, she says things which are hurtful and mean.
She swears later, “I didn’t mean it.”
or the infamous, “you’re delusional.”
Anyway, those incidents never happened.
With a bit of liquor in her, I become the enemy.
She declares it so; she declares war.
She sees me not for who I am
She sees every other man;
She sees all who wronged her in one man.
Blame it on the alcohol
Yes, it made you say things you’ve wanted to say
It showed your truest colors
It exposed you
Efforts overlooked
Happy moments forgotten
Sad moments erased
A repetitive toxic cycle
And it starts with that first glass, every time
She drinks
She remembers them
They knew her better.
They were drinking buddies.
I imagine it to be fun
A glass or two
A shot of bravery mixed with courage
and you are invincible
you are free to see and do as you wish
All inhibitions are gone
Late night calls
Tearful pleas
One-way venting sessions
Unearthed traumas forgotten once it wears off.
